National Cooperation Agreement: Redalyc and Portugal to Boost Quality and Visibility of Diamond Open Access Journals.
Cooperation Agreement between the Scientific Information System Redalyc, the Foundation for Science and Technology, and the University of Minho.
We are pleased to announce the signing of a cooperation agreement in Portugal, marking a significant milestone for Redalyc. This agreement represents the first collaboration of its kind with a national governmental institution, responsible for promoting and supporting scientific research in the country.
This three-year agreement has been signed between the Redalyc Scientific Information System, the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), and the Universidade do Minho.
The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and the University of Minho are responsible for the development of the Pub In project, an initiative aimed at creating an ecosystem for managing scientific journals. This project seeks to simplify, integrate, and bring coherence to the current range of platforms for managing the editorial lifecycle (submission, review, publication) of national scientific journals.
The primary objective of this agreement is to strengthen scientific journals in Portugal through this collaboration, which includes the following main strategic actions:
- Support for Scientific Journals of the PUB IN Initiative: Improve their quality, production, and visibility through the tools and services of REDALYC, including access to the XML JATS Markup System and the Marcalyc Editorial Workflow.
- Promote Interoperability: Foster the exchange of resources and standards for the acceptance of XML JATS, facilitating efficient indexing and updating of journal content.
- Diagnostic Evaluation: Conduct a diagnostic evaluation of the quality of the country’s scientific journals, according to the criteria and methodology of REDALYC, with the aim of identifying areas of opportunity for strengthening the journals.
- Report Preparation and Publication: Collaborate on the preparation and publication of a report on scientific production in Portugal, providing relevant indicators for the academic community.
With the signing and implementation of this collaboration agreement, scientific journals will be supported, and interoperability will be promoted, creating a more robust ecosystem that facilitates free and open access to scientific information. Additionally, training and the use of advanced tools will strengthen local capacities in editorial management and scientific publishing, raising the standards of national journals.
These actions will not only significantly strengthen scientific research in Portugal but also contribute to the advancement of knowledge as a global public good and reinforce the global infrastructure of open science, promoting a more inclusive and accessible research environment.
