National Collaboration Program Cuba-AmeliCA: Advancing Open Science and Scientific Visibility.
Collaboration Agreement between AmeliCA Open Science and the Agency of Social and Humanistic Sciences (AXIS).
AmeliCA has established a new international alliance with the signing of a cooperation agreement in Cuba. This agreement sets the foundation for collaboration between AmeliCA Open Science and the Agency of Social and Human Sciences (AXIS) for the creation, development, and operation of the “National Collaboration Program Cuba-AmeliCA”.
AXIS, as a science-focused organization, is responsible for developing, directing, proposing, and controlling scientific policy in the field of social and humanistic sciences in Cuba.Additionally, it promotes, implements, and coordinates the use of culture, knowledge, services, and innovations derived from the creations and research of its affiliated entities, contributing to the management of research programs and projects.
AmeliCA, a collaborative initiative to promote and strengthen the development of open science, aims to preserve the academic and open nature of scientific communication, promoting collaborative, sustainable, and non-commercial open access from the commons paradigm and centered on a non-profit academic communication model. This agreement will be in effect for three years, during which various initiatives will be strengthened in favor of open science.
Main Strategic Actions:
- Support for scientific journals: Strengthen the quality, production, and visibility of AXIS scientific journals through AmeliCA’s tools and resources.
- Editor training program: Develop and implement a training program aimed at editors of Diamond Open Access journals.
- Training in Open Science: Design a training program that promotes Open Science for the Common Good.
- Creation of a National Repository: Collaborate in the construction of a National Repository of Scientific Journals certified by AXIS.
- Diagnostic quality evaluation: Conduct a quality diagnostic of AXIS-certified scientific journals to identify areas for improvement.
- Scientific production report: Prepare and publish a report on Cuba’s scientific production in journals indexed by Redalyc.
This joint effort not only seeks to strengthen scientific and technological infrastructure but also to foster a culture of collaboration and open access. Through these actions, AmeliCA and AXIS are committed to generating a positive impact on the strengthening of open science in Cuba, benefiting both the local and global academic community.
