Webinar: Diamond Journals Considering the APC Model
-
Date
30 April, 2025
-
Time
9:00 am - 10:00 am
This webinar will address the worrying trend of diamond journals adopting, or considering to adopt, the APC model. Latin America pioneered the development of diamond open access journals which are both free to read and free to publish in. These journals are typically supported by research departments within universities and are leading examples of equitable open access. However these successful initiatives are under threat from commercial models being driven from the Global North, specifically the Article Processing Charge (APC).
The webinar will feature:
Arianna Becerril García, Executive Director of Redalyc and Professor-Researcher at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico.
Leslie Chan, Associate Professor, Teaching, in the Department of Global Development Studies and the director of the Knowledge Equity Lab at the University of Toronto Scarborough.
Saray Córdoba, Professor at the University of Costa Rica and Honorary Member of Latindex.
Peter Suber, Senior Advisor on Open Access (in Harvard Library) and Director of the Harvard Open Access Project.
Introduced by: Melissa Hagemann, Program Manager of the Open Access Initiative, Information Program, Open Society Institute.
