English vers. Marcalyc 4.0: improvements in the XML-JATS markup tool for Diamond Open Access academic journals indexed in Redalyc.

We present the enhancements that the Redalyc Scientific Information System has developed in version 4.0 of Marcalyc, Editorial Workflow System and XML-JATS Markup. With a focus on quality and security, these improvements add to Redalyc’s commitment to strengthen a sustainable model of non-commercial Open Access publishing.

The use of Marcalyc represents a significant advantage for the editors of journals indexed in Redalyc, as it not only offers free access to all its functionalities but also provides users with a more automated and efficient editorial workflow, significantly reducing the time and effort required to complete repetitive and technical tasks.

Additionally, the academic community will notice that important improvements in security and the terms of use of this tool have been implemented, providing journals and their collaborators with greater security and confidence during the markup process.

Improvements and New Features

Accounts, Licenses, and Security

  • Improvements in security and updated terms of use for Marcalyc.

  • Automation of Marcalyc account requests
    • Development of a system to enter the data of the account responsible (licensor)and approve account access. 
    • Notification to the journal that an account has been requested and granted for the journal’s collection.
  • Increased security in the markup process
    • Licensor authentication to generate markup products through a verification code once the issue is completed.
  • Integration of the HTTPS certificate into the Marcalyc subdomain to bolster connection security and ensure data transfer integrity.

Open Data in Articles

  • New Open Data integration service within the markup workflow.
  • AmeliCA Commons: Open Data Repository.
  • Visualization of open resources associated with articles on the Redalyc portal’s journal home page.

Support for Continuous Publication

  • With this improvement, journals operating under the continuous publication model can now be appropriately categorized on the platform. This development establishes a workflow that enables the ongoing inclusion of scientific articles.

Integration with OJS

  • Update and enhancement in the Redalyc integration plugin with OJS.
  • Import in OJS compatible with OJS version 3.4.0-4.

Support and communication

  • Automatic detection of product generation failures and automatic redirection to the support team.
  • Submitting requests to edit article text. 
  • Submission of technical error reports, used when a visualization product has not been generated correctly. 
  • The possibility of continuing access to the download area in the table of contents once the issue is completed.
  • Creation of a new administration module for the management and attention of Marcalyc user requests.
